Posture

In almost anything we do, we should maintain a proper posture. When I was an adolescent, my parents constantly corrected my lazy and awkward posture as I either stood, walked, sat, or laid down; their guidance could have come from my father’s strict training as he served in the Navy; be as it may, I am quite grateful.  Thank goodness for their correction, as today I look at many of my friends, clients, and other family members postures, and I find myself correcting their stance.

How we carry ourselves can have huge implications if we don’t practice it; good posture is important to your overall health and offers a variety of benefits including reduced back pain, increased energy, and greater confidence. Having good posture is important to your overall health, as it can help you avoid muscle tension, pain, fatigue, and many other common ailments and medical conditions.  So, to achieve a good stance, stand straight and tall with your shoulders back. Keep your head level and in line with your body. Pull in your abdomen. Keep your feet shoulder-width apart. Don't lock your knees. Bear your weight primarily on the balls of your feet. Let your hands hang naturally at your sides.

So remember, your stance and posture should be erect or upright as in a military stance; the position forces you to utilize fitness equipment in a protective stance and aids in the muscle development process; thus avoiding or reducing possibilities of injuries.
