Positive Mental Attitude

1. The Challenge

The most complex phase of any beginning is getting started; it’s like when most writers start their first draft of a story, article or composition, the most difficult part is what to write about. We can certainly relate those feelings to our overall well being. Once you begin, it’s challenging maintaining that rhythm. So, adopting a tactic to make this process less cumbersome, is by focusing our attention mentally first. Keep the attention on the expectation that this challenge will be hard, grilling, and ever-lasting! Some of you may adapt the opposite perspective-the task at hand will be easy, fast, and will absolutely not take long at all! In other words, to each their own. The strategy is to keep it mental. Once you’ve mastered the mental state, the body will follow.

2. Take a stand

Now that you have achieved the most challenging aspect of your mental plan, which is “beginning the workout”, assume control! Do not let any outside forces enter your realm or domain until you are finished. You are in your place of training, it is your moment, and you’re on your way. This position or fortress that you have built is unbreakable. Any challenges that attempt to come into your stance can be overcome by simply dismissing them or embracing force that is trying to break your mental state of mind and stance. These challenges could be simply your insecurities attempting to get you to stop your training and that something else needs attention now. You can either dismiss or embrace them. Dwelling on either scenario helps melt the time away it takes to complete your workout. For the most part your positive mental stance will never cause you to collapse!

3. In Control

It’s all mental, so train the mind!

You have begun and are now in a position to be on cruise control until you have completed your workout. This phase is the easiest and will take you to the finish line. The only mental challenge here is the thought process many of us face as we get closer towards the finish line and this is, “ I can’t go any longer and have to STOP.” If you’ve made it this far, you will make it to your goal! Keep positive no matter what is attempting to cause you to fail; either dwell on the possibility that you may fail, but keep going or focus on the desire that you’ll achieve that goal! There are, however, limitations; if you feel that you really need to stop, then pause for a break and then restart. If after attempting to continue after your pause, you feel that you really need to stop, then terminate the session and begin again on the next day. The recovery process as a result of prematurely ending the workout will make your stronger and last longer during the next attempt. You can’t fail forever. The key is to never stop trying. Eventually, you will succeed!

Mind and Body Prep

Before beginning your regiment, it is imperative that you understand that if the mind is not ready, the body will not respond in as much as when the body is ready the mind may also not partake; both engines must be aligned to succeed.

Mind & Body work hand in hand

Many times, we’re quite simply either too tired, stressed, depressed, sick or lack the motivation to perform the necessary wellness goals set forth, and this is a mental thing. Our bodies may be ready, but the lack of a positive thought process towards achieving the goals lack. At this point, it’s best to take a step back and determine, did I sleep enough or too much; did I not eat the right meals or was the timing off; or was the stress at work too overbearing? the list of reasons is endless. Once more, this is a mental game or you really need to just chill for a few days or nap for a few hours prior.

It’s all mental, so train the mind!

The physical lack of training can range from body injury, soreness, being impaired, and other factors; don’t let either bog you down! Enjoy as much time as you need to recover from the lack of training, leave those issues behind, and do not think about them constantly; otherwise, you’ll either become a basket case or be prone to injury because of anxiety to begin your training. Remember, know the challenge, but don’t dwell on it, take a stand, and be in control both mentally and physically.
